Rohit Sharma becomes fifth Indian captain to cross 5000 run mark across formats

Rohit Sharma has ended his rough patch with the bat in the T20 World Cup 2024 after his blistering 92 off 41 balls against Australia on June 24. As India took on England in semifinal 2 at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on June 27, the India opener has joined the former India captain’s pantheon for highest run-getter across formats as an Indian skipper. Rohit continued his onslaught against the English as the team lost two early wickets.

Virat Kohli continued his underwhelming outing at the World Cup and Rishabh Pant too followed suit as the duo were dismissed for nine and four runs respectively. The Hitman took the onus on himself and scored a calculative 37 runs off 26 balls before rain halted the proceedings.  While doing so, he surpassed the 5000-run landmark as India’s captain and became the fifth cricketer to achieve the feat.

The fourth spot is occupied by the Prince of Kolkata, Sourav Ganguly scoring 7643 runs as the Indian skipper. It is worth noting that, Rohit has had a minimal run as a leader in comparison with his other counterparts.

Rohit has dominated T20I format as India captain

The right-handed batter has remained unbeaten for 37 times. Moreover, Rohit has captained the Indian team in just 16 matches making his feat worth giving a thorough look into.

India skipper Rohit Sharma also became the first Indian captain to score a fifty in T20 World Cup knockouts.
