Watch: Rishabh Pant’s lightning-fast stumping sends Moeen Ali back to pavilion

In a crucial semi-final clash between India and England at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Thursday, June 27, wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant’s lightning-sharp reflexes behind the stumps proved decisive. His fast stumping of Moeen Ali off Axar Patel’s bowling dealt a big blow to England’s chase.

The match began with England winning the toss and electing to field, challenging India to set a target. The Men in Blue rose to the occasion, posting a total of 171/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Skipper Rohit Sharma led from the front with a quickfire 57, while Suryakumar Yadav chipped in with a valuable 47.

As the Three Lions began their pursuit, Indian bowlers, particularly Patel, kept putting constant pressure. Patel had already claimed the crucial wickets of skipper Jos Buttler and  Jonny Bairstow when Ali strode to the crease, hoping to stabilize the innings.

The pivotal moment came in the 8th over. The left-arm spinner, bowling with pinpoint accuracy, fired one into Ali’s legs. The ball clipped the batter’s thigh pad, deceiving him into thinking it had traveled further than it had. As Ali lost his balance and stepped out of his crease, Pant rose to the occasion.

With brilliant reflexes, Pant collected the ball and smashed the bails in a fraction of a second. Ali, realizing his error too late, tried reaching back, but Pant’s lightning-quick hands showed him the way to the pavilion.

The Men on Blue have already sent six of the England batters back to the pavilion and are looking to dismantle the lower order to seal the game in their favour and storm into the T20 World Cup 2024 final while remaining unbeaten in the tournament.
