JSW Combat SUV Expected to Arrive in India in Late 2026; Plug-in Hybrid Powertrain Likely
JSW Motors’ upcoming SUV, expected to be called the JSW Combat, could make its India debut during the 2026 festive season. Based on the rugged Jetour T2 from Chinese automaker Chery, the SUV is expected to bring distinctive styling and plug-in hybrid technology to India’s premium SUV market.
While an exact launch date has not been officially confirmed, media reports have pointed to a late-2026 debut, potentially around the festive period. The expected ex-showroom price is estimated at ₹30 lakh to ₹50 lakh, although the final price and variant details remain undisclosed.
Jetour T2-inspired design
The JSW Combat is expected to retain much of the Jetour T2’s upright, boxy design. Its rugged appearance includes a tall stance, chunky bumpers, squared-off styling elements and a tailgate-mounted spare-wheel design.
The styling is aimed at buyers looking for an SUV with a strong road presence and an adventure-oriented character. However, the India-spec model’s final design and equipment will only be confirmed closer to launch.
The Combat is expected to enter a competitive segment where buyers increasingly compare not just styling, but also cabin space, technology, safety and everyday usability.
Plug-in hybrid powertrain expected
The SUV is expected to use a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol plug-in hybrid powertrain. Unlike a conventional hybrid, a plug-in hybrid can be charged externally and may allow drivers to complete shorter journeys using electric power alone.
The international Jetour T2 is available in different configurations, and its specifications vary by market. The final engine output, battery capacity, electric driving range and drivetrain for the Indian model have not yet been officially confirmed.
The drivetrain is particularly important. Although the global T2 is offered in different configurations, reports suggest that the India-bound Combat could use a front-wheel-drive hybrid setup. Buyers should therefore wait for the final specification before assuming it will offer the off-road capability of a conventional four-wheel-drive SUV.
Expected price and competition
The JSW Combat’s estimated ₹30 lakh–₹50 lakh ex-showroom price range would place it among several established premium SUVs. Its rugged styling may invite comparisons with the Mahindra Thar Roxx, while its expected five-seat format and hybrid powertrain could attract buyers considering larger family SUVs.
The final price will be crucial. Customers will need to assess the vehicle’s equipment, battery and hybrid-system warranty, charging requirements, service network and long-term ownership costs—not just its appearance or claimed performance.
A plug-in hybrid could be particularly useful for buyers with access to home charging and regular city commutes. However, the benefits depend on how frequently the vehicle is charged and how the system performs in real-world conditions.
Local production and the road ahead
The Combat is part of JSW Motors’ broader plans to establish a presence in India’s passenger-vehicle market. Local assembly could help the company manage costs and build a domestic manufacturing footprint, although the extent of localisation and its effect on pricing remain to be confirmed.
For a new vehicle brand, product specifications are only one part of the challenge. A dependable dealer network, spare-parts availability, after-sales service and transparent warranty coverage will be essential to winning buyer confidence.
The JSW Combat could offer Indian buyers a distinctive new SUV option, but several key details remain unconfirmed. Its official launch date, India-specific powertrain, equipment list and price will determine how it compares with established rivals when it arrives.
